Good morning I hope this information is helpful. Please find below the weather forecast and SLCs planned gritting/snow clearing action for the coming period. In summary; Overnight (Friday into Saturday) Some fairly heavy bursts of snow experienced overnight. Worst affected areas were Lesmahagow and Carnwath with up to 6 inches of snow reported. The precautionary gritting routes across the whole of the Council area have needed continuous treatment and this will continue until at least 11am this morning. Assistance has also been provided by farmer tractors and colleagues in Community. Planned action for Saturday Treatment of precautionary routes will continue until at least 11am this morning and if conditions allow we will revert to patrolling the precautionary routes thereafter and treat secondary carriageway routes where possible. Precautionary footways routes are ongoing at present and will be complete later this morning. Further weather forecasts will be received this afternoon and this evening and this will also determine the timing and exact course of action over the coming period. 36 HOUR SUMMARY FORECAST FOR SOUTH LANARKSHIRE FORECAST FOR SATURDAY 17/01/2015 08:00 GMT Regional review 0600 ISSUE: COLD TODAY WITH SCATTERED SNOW SHOWERS; BECOMING LARGELY DRY OVERNIGHT. Saturday will be breezy with sunny intervals and a scattering of showers, these falling mainly as snow. Overnight it will become largely dry with clear spells. Some patchy freezing fog may form. It will be very chilly across the region. Sunday will cloud over after a bright start and an area of sleet and snow will move southwards across the region for a time in the morning. Becoming mainly dry with sunny spells during the afternoon, but it will be cold and breezy Snow Summary Saturday: Scattered snow showers are likely across the region through the day. Accumulations of around 2-5cm are likely over many of the hills with localised accumulations of around 1-2cm elsewhere. Saturday night: The snow showers will largely die out. However, there could be further localised accumulations of up to 1cm for a time. Sunday: An area of sleet and snow will move southwards across the region for a time in the morning.
