Good morning! I think Im actually going to venture outside the door today with Ed to go to Cracker Barrel (for a breakfast I promised him) and to Sams Club to get things for his Mothers birthday party on Saturday. I insisted that we try to make this birthday extra special for her for a number of reasons: after all its HER birthday, shes 94--and well, she deserves any darn thing she wants! Previously, weve always had pizza parties, but this year I asked for her input and she said she wanted pulled pork and fried chicken! lol Ed looked a little flabbergasted, but convinced him Id take care of ordering it and I ordered from a great place near here called appropriately enough: BBQ Barn! lol We rounded out the menu with rice and gravy, mac and cheese and a few other goodies. Then I ordered a cake the way Mom likes it with her favorite sunflowers and daisies on it. The last thing I have to pick up on the big day is flowers for every table at the nursing home. I think residents will be really surprised this year! It costs us so little in retrospect and these are the memories she keeps now- the short term ones. They are the ones that she will pull out when she is feeling sad or lonely, because a lot of the older memories have faded into a fuzzy distance. I hope that the memories she remembers are of birthday parties and watching her son wear silly holiday hats and pass out candy! I hope they are of going out with us for a ride or the bookstore or dinner. And I hope they all bring her joy. Have a Blessed Thursday, FBers!
