Good morning. I would just like to put a post on thanking everyone who has come forward to offer fostering with ADDR. Fostering is a very important role in any rescue, however, sometimes dogs take a few days to settle in and adjust to their new environment and what we are finding is that some people give up within 24-48 hours and ask that dogs are returned for different reasons. Please remember that when a dog is taken out of a kennel environment they are usually fairly excitable and have loads of energy so it takes a good couple walks to calm them down . Also they need to adjust to a new routine, they may appear a little anxious and will not always bond instantly...do you trust someone that you have met after 5 minutes? They may also require further training. Another point to consider is that dogs may not find a home within a couple weeks, some may wait a few months. We do our best to find all the dogs the most suitable home and will not always place a dog with the first enquiry that comes in for them because its not the right home for that dog. So we ask that if you are looking to foster with ADDR to take everything that we say on board, we will match the dog we feel is best suited to you and your environment and that its not always an option that you have as a fosterer but we are looking at what we feel is best for you and the dog on a temporary basis until a permanent home is found. So thank you for taking the time to read this and remember before applying to foster with us to take all of these very important points in board. We do not have time to arrange transport and then rearrange a couple days later because the dog doesnt suit you. And most importantly remember that by asking for the dog to be moved so quickly you are unsettling the dog more than what he/she was when in kennels. If you are not willing to give a dog a fair chance then we ask that you do not apply to foster with us.
