Good morning Rowdy folk, This morning I’d like to address an issue that’s been bugging me for some time now. It seems as though these “marches for justice” have now spread to Canada quite rapidly with protests and marches demanding justice for “racially” motivated crimes. A few days ago in Toronto, Ontario, an 18-year old boy named Sammy Yutin was riding a street car when he presented a knife. When police arrived and boarded the street car, Sammy egged them on with phrases such as “Come get me”, etc. and would not comply with the officers’ orders to drop the weapon. Due to their training, and orders, they proceeded to shoot him. They fired off 9 rounds, resulting in his death. Days later, protests and marches started popping up demanding “Justice for Sammy”. Before I say anything further, please know that I, in no way, feel happy when someone dies, but I do feel that at times it is necessary in order to ensure your own safety and survival. The problem I have with these outrageous and ridiculous protests is that they demand justice for the injustice the “victim” caused. Much like the Trayvon Martin marches. Both of these kids, however young, chose to follow the WRONG path which lead to their ultimate demise. There is absolutely NO ONE to blame but themselves. It frustrates me to know end that these people demand more laws, then more laws, and so on, and then when we enforce a law they freak out and cry injustice because we did the right thing. If I was George Zimmerman or the police officer in Toronto, I would have made the same call they did, however controversial. It’s time that these bandwagon cause supporters start looking at matters with a more intellectual and sophisticated point of view rather than the newest way to look compassionate. There is no need to start pulling the race card about either of these incidents. Neither Trayvon nor Sammy was the targets of racially motivated crimes and people need to stop treating it as such. They were involved in criminal activity and would not comply with the law. Am I happy that an 18 year old and 17 year old boy is dead, of course not. Yet at the same time, I’m satisfied that the police officer, and Zimmerman, used that form of justice as a LAST RESORT after trying desperately to have the boys comply and resolve the issues peacefully. I hope I don’t piss off too many people with this, but I had to say my piece. What do you guys think? The Gray Baron
