Good morning. Thank you for joining us today for prayer. We are praying the prayer of Jabez each day in this final week of the 21 Days and believing God for great things. This morning I want to focus on the first request Jabez made in 1 Chronicles 4:9-10 when he said, Oh, that you would bless me indeed” Now, he is not praying a “name it and claim it” kind of a blessing. That’s not the focus of this blessing he is asking for. He was asking God to impart supernatural favor upon him. It’s the kind of thing in your life where God does something so great that you look at it and say, “That shouldn’t even be happening!” Here’s the problem. Some of us don’t even know that God wants to bless us. We look at God like we have to EARN His blessing. Some of us think God just wants to keep us down. Look at this verse and tell me it’s not just the opposite of what a lot of people think about God …(Psalm 5:12) For surely, O LORD, you bless the righteous; You surround them with Your favor as with a shield. So why does God want us to be blessed? We find the answer in Genesis 12:2 (NLT) I will bless you…and you will be a blessing to others. He wants to bless us for the specific purpose of blessing others. You see, we can’t encourage someone else if we are discouraged ouselves! We can’t bless someone else if we are not blessed ourselves! God wants us to be blessed so we can bless others!! Jesus said in Matthew 7:11 that If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! Lord, this morning we ask for your blessing. Not out of selfishness in order to be a hoarder, but out of selflessness in order to be a helper! Expand our sphere of influence of those we can help.
