Good morning! Todays automotive tip. Does your car burn oil between changes? Does it have over 70k miles on it? Although no modern engine should burn oil the sad fact is many do. In this era of being green for all the good we do seperating cans from garbage and watching recycled goods To think that all the cars on the road that burn oil makes me shudder Most modern cars have instructions to use lighter and lighter oil such as 5-w-20 Fact, lighter oils are specifically to lighten the parasitic drag and rotational mass load on engines for FUEL MILEAGE. But , They dont make up for poor tolerances or lack of maintenece or even higher mileage. In Florida many people dont even realize we are an extreme condition The tempatures down here , we run our a/c s most of the year, when we turn our cars off our under hood temperature soars putting undue stress on any rubber belts ,hoses , plastic cooling system components. in the mid 90s seeing a trend that all Saturn cars burned oil I started experimenting with valvoline max life brand oil. Designed specifically for higher mileage cars I also started using it in my own tow vehicles that had to endure positively brutal conditions such as towing across alligator alley in 115+ degree heat. It does what it advertises. Realizing that car makers care only about fuel mileage and HOPE that after 100k if you get major internal engine damage that youll show up at their doorstep they dont teach people the essential basics to keeping their cars at peak maintenance to shoot for the 200 k + mark. Car racers and tow companys, fleet owners such as taxi cabs and bus s have known this trick for generations. Simply moving up into a heavier weight oil such as 10-w-30 or 10-w-40 and doing your oil changes on schedule is one of the EASIEST ways to cut oil consumption. Ive personally used valvoline max life 10-w-40 in all my gas vehicles and my customers burning oil with positive results and not one of my personal vehicles had died an early catostrophic death, Burned oil between changes, or suffered major internal engine failure under extreme conditions. In motors of customers that have had issues with oil burning using lighter weight oil ,simply switching them to Valvoline max life GREATLY cut their oil consumption. So Change your oil EVERY 3k religiously. My diesel truck says I can go 7k between changes, I wouldnt even dream of it. It now has 250k on it, doesnt burn oil and most surpisngly still has the original VVT factory turbocharger on it spooling up beautifully. ( oil starvation is the number one cause of ALL turbo failures) Use valvoline max life in any gas motor with over 50k on it. If it all ready burns oil move into a heavier weight. simple maintenance is the first thing to be neglected in tough economic times. Major engine failures are the LAST thing you want in tough economic times. Or any time. Enjoy your weekend, Maintain your cars and theyll reciprocate. Joey.
