Good morning! While you all were sleeping, we were experiencing miracles! Late yesterday Danes doctor decided to very aggressively wean him off of his ventilator. They moved his settings significantly, in hopes that he would tolerate the drastic changes well and they would move to just pressurized oxygen in his nose. Immediately after those changes it was obvious he was a happy camper and very ready for the challenge and at 9pm they officially took him off his ventilator!! There were lots of happy tears, lots of snuggles (I hadnt held him since Wednesday) and the most alert baby eyes we had seen all week. It boils down to this: Dane is now breathing COMPLETELY unassisted, with just a little extra pressurized oxygen. Amazing. Yesterday morning none of the doctors thought that would be possible by the end of the day, but God is BIG, and Dane is strong. The next steps will be to move to room air, or air you and I breathe, have a clear chest X-Ray after all these changes, switch to a low flow oxygen cannula (nose hose), begin nursing, finish his antibiotics (he has a few more days of those) and then GO HOME. Thank you for your prayers. There is joy radiating from all of us as we experience answered prayer at every turn. Today is definitely a day of worshipping Gods power, grace, provision, and goodness in our boys life. Happy Sunday, friends.
