Good morning! Wonderful day yesterday as the community gathered together and sorted through over 15,000 pounds of donated items for the Troops. While some items were stocked in storage at the VAC much was brought in by those that attended yesterday’s Annual Pack Out. Over 200 people yesterday braved the snow and bad roads to either drops goods or stay the day and sort, pack, label and assist with the days mission, from 4 year olds to 84 year olds we packed just over 900 boxes which will all be heading this week to Afghanistan, Korea, Iraq, Kuwait, Japan, Africa, a few off the map locations and also to hospitalized and recovering service members. We were able to load over 100 boxes last night that will be at the Post office this morning, with more be loading onto trucks tonight to be brought to the post office in the morning once again. As expected we had over a dozen last minute APO addresses come in last night, so tonight we will be labeling about another 200 boxes. The boxes we ship range in cost from based upon size and what region the APO is leaving the Country from, by our rough guestimation last night we are approx. $1200 - $1500 short on shipping costs of the 900 + packages. Any donation or t-shirt sale that comes in via our website between now & Wednesday morning will go to cover shipping costs, any overage of funds received will remain on our care package account as we do ship boxes out on a regular basis. If anyone would care to assist tonight at the VAC with final labeling the doors will be open at 1900 hrs till about 2130 hrs. If you could assist us with transporting these boxes to the St James post office Tuesday morning with your truck, please show up at the VAC tonight for loading. Thank you. Any Veterans in crisis if you need food or an ear call the VAC tonight (after 1900hrs) at 631-615-2200 or stop in – 2184 Pond Road, Ronkonkoma, Unit A-4. If you are in immediate crisis please call the VA crisis line at 1800-273-8255 (*press 1), my cell phone is also 631-294-5248, and you can either call or text if you need to chat. -FB
