Good morning all. C Grade match result and report. By Two in a Row Pucka C Grade travelled a journey to the back oval of Kings Park Seymour. Upon arrival I was quite surprised as having never played on it, and only ever watching one junior game there, the digs were a welcomed site. The outfield was slick and neat, and the pitch made from some form of rubberish melfoid, made for a well anticipated day of Cricket. It was good to play with a full side of 12 players. The toss was made and once again Heads was called, and would you believe it up she comes again. We have been fortunate enough to at least win every toss so far this season. With a strong bowling and batting side on paper, the decision was a difficult one to make. Having faith in our attack I decided to have a bowl. Due to Club Legend Peter Baxter out injured from a mystery injury to his trotter ( Get well soon Pete) alternative keeping duties were required. Who better to take on the job than young 12 year old Kobe Marston, junior keeper for several seasons. After the obvious initial shock of being asked if he would like too keep, the car boot was soon up and gear was being ripped from the gear bag at a rapid rate. With the inclusion of Paceman Phil Inn to the side for his first game for the season, made for an interesting first over, as opening duties were assigned to the Inn. Clint Swan Lake Mcsweeney continued on his previous weeks good form also opening from the other end. The pair bowled a solid spell for the first 6 overs but it was Mcsweeney to break the partnership with a sharp rising ball and a top edge of sorts to backward square resulting in a another great catch to the ever reliable Jae Haupt. The young man snaffles them with ease, the score 1/3 off 6 overs. It wasnt too much later that Mcsweeney picked up another one with Anthony I dont drop them in slips Simcox. It must be said it looked like more of a defensive face protection move but it stuck in the claws and he just casually as you like rolled the ball to the umpire completely unfazed as if to say well whats next ! Great catch Steam Train. The score 2/11 off 9 overs. Eastern Hill sent in a couple of stroke makers to get things moving along and they started to take a bit of a liking to the opening duo of Inn and McSweeney. A change in pace was required so the ball was given to Greame The Fridge Potts. Fresh from his tour of the South Australian vineyards and sampling of the fine seafood of the Coast, the Fridge was keen to get back into the swing of things. From the start of his spell, one could sense a strange aroma from the Fridge, and it wasnt long before he was on a hatrick in his first over, removing the middle peg of one and taking the off of another in consecutive balls. Unfortunately he was unsuccessful on this occasion of picking up the hatrick. The score 4/31 off 12 overs. The second change bowling duties were given to Maurice Burger Hall. After a few games of turf cricket the Burger found the going tuff early and was being clipped around. It would be fair to say that the outfield was very quick and you certainly got value for your shots, even when they didnt come off the bat crisp. Fielding was certainly on song with the guys sticking to the task, young Kobe Marston keeping like a young man older than his years. One puzzling event occurred, with young Lachlan Cuddles Deeble missing one in the outfield resulting in a four. It was totally out of character for the young man who seemed a little out of sorts, but received a few small comforting waves from a young lass that must have been just walking by. ? Only joking Lachy. The Fridge continued on his tight spell, but the Fridge must have thought all his Christmass had come a month early as a return catch went beckoning as the batsman had to quickly return to his crease under the thunderous sound of NOOOOOOOOOOOO Oh and the thunderous laughs of both teams and spectators as well. The return caught and bowled going down as one of the best dropped Sodas in my time as a player. But the Fridge being a competitive sort of Gent, thought I will show you lot and ripped out another over being on a hatrick again for the second time in his spell. Two catches being taken, once again by Mr Reliable Jae Haupt who has a great set of mitts, and not to be left out Clint McSweeney taking a one handed effort that appeared to be easier than made out. Once again the Fridge missed the opportunity of a hatrick and was subsequently fined by all for not at least getting one hatrick. After a few bowling tips from the Steam Train, Burger was back in buisness picking up 3 quick wickets and the Fridge getting his 5th with a good grab from Matt Marston. Eastern Hill all out for 63 off 21 overs. Bowling figures Phil Inn 0/13 off 5, C.Mcsweeney 2/13 off 4, M. Hall 3/29 off 6, but the Fridge took all bowling honours with the unbelievable figures of 5/4 off 6 overs. What can you say to that. Well bowled and fielded and well done again to Kobe Marston on his keeping duties. Im so proud of this kid. Trying to keep the batting line up solid, Darren The Tree Deeble strolled out to the middle with newly promoted opener Anthony Steam Train Simcox. Unfortunately Deeble adjudged LBW in somewhat unhappy circumstances, but too his credit waited to he got off the ground before contemplating taking to the umpires car with his bat. The score 1/0 off 4 balls. In strolled the Burger, still on a high from his good stint of bowling, together he and the train set to derail the bowling attack, playing shots around the ground and over the fence on one occasion. Ever compassionate Lachlan Deeble obviously fearing for the young lass of earliers safety was spotted comforting her on the boundary fence. Very good of you young man, your dad was proud. With the runs almost in reach and the Burger looming on a fifty, it was decided to play an extra few balls to give him a chance to bring it up. Unfortunately the Burger was caught behind and out for 44 very quickly made runs. Anthony Simcox kept the red ink with a solid 22 not out. Once again a very enjoyable game, and once again it cost me $2.50 each to field 2 balls. Next week we have a good chance to knock over ladder leaders Flowerdale, in what is expected to be a good test to see were we are at. The group of guys in this team is gelling together well and its been a pleasure to take part in this Grade this season. Lets all get to training and work on our games, and please let me know if you are unavailable next week as we already have 3 not available from this weeks side. Good luck to Burger next week on his cake baking competition, I know you will win this year.
