Good morning and welcome to YourElevationToday. Today’s topic: Assumption vs. Reality Here’s a true story: Two friends were leaving Wednesday fellowship when they see each other & share an uncomfortable hug. Friend 1, Sade, notices something is awry. Friend 2, Labake, fiddles with her umbrella to protect her from the rain, says something ‘random’ whilst greeting a 3rd friend. Sade is sure something is up & makes a mental note of it because this is not the first time she has been given the cold shoulder in recent time by Labake. Sade is sure Labake is angry because Labake asked her to the opening a friends shop in Lekki 1 but she couldn’t make it. Labake on the other hand is sure Sade is too busy with her boyfriend & new job that she barely has time for her. In truth, Labakes mother is ill and Sade just got a warning letter at her office. Both are faced with situations that can prove to be a little too much to bear alone. You see, both have assumed wrongly and both have failed to ask the other questions as to why their relationship is failing. Sometimes, we neglect strong friendships and pour our energy into friendships that God wants closed. Today, take the time to recognise the smoke signals in your friendships & work out the issues. Proverbs 18:24 says, ‘A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother’. Today, call, text, or chat a friend you haven’t spoken to in a while. Re-live fond memories, share secrets and speak possibilities. You’ll discover that a weight will be lifted off you once you do & dialogue can begin again. Understand that friends are in our lives for a reason, whether we put them there or not. Treat them with respect and honour them as Christ has honoured you by blessing you with them in the first place. Shalom!
