Good morning chiari. Sorry to scare everyone last night but things got hairy very quickly. CJS neurologic status deteriorated throughout the day. CJ has been diagnosed with a brain injury/swelling. His hear rate dropped into the 50s and his pupils began to dilate. He is having all kinds or heart arrhythmias and was becoming less responsive. We did another CT scan which showed minimal changes. He had a dedicated nurse that checked him every hour. They started him on a high sodium drip and are pumping him full of steroids. He did well overnight only waking up a couple of times. He had to get morphine this morning because he was in pain. We talked to Dr. Mark and he said that their original plan was to close his CSF drain but they are not going to do that. He is still draining a tremendous amount. They are going to let him stabilize today and hopefully close drain tomorrow. He has been assigned two nurses today thay will be checking him every hour. They will be closely monitoring his brain pressure after they close the drain. Dr. Mark said there is a very high possibility that his pressures will increase and If that happens they will be placing a permanent shunt. They strongly suspect hydrocephalus but will know more after they turn off the drain. Thanks again for all the prayers. They really help.
