I may ruin my credibility here, but Im really excited about the Garth Brooks comeback. He was an important part of the cultural noise of our youth in the south/midwest. Probably everywhere. Punk revival and Garth Brooks happened at the same time. Zines coming in the mail. Reading the latest issue of Flipside, while cranking Sloppy Seconds or The Queers. *Bang on the bedroom door.* Turn that shit down! Meanwhile, at the mechanical bull riding bars and bowling alleys, the bad (and often GOOD!) karaoke renditions of Friends in Low Places became a cliche. He was a really bad David Bowie too. (Chris Gaines was no Ziggy Stardust.) He became a bloated, cookie cutter, country crossover machine, on the cover of the Rolling Stone, and he walked away. Took care of his kids. Didnt shoot up. Didnt kill himself. The SNL episode was awkward, but its cool. Cant wait, actually.
