Good morning everybody! Just wanted to drop in and see how it was going. It is good to have a place where you can collect your thoughts and be among friends. I have seen many things come down the pike here lately regarding the Word and the different interpretations to scripture. I have also seen a lot of false teaching come down the pike as well. It can get confusing sometimes. It doesn’t matter how long you have been with the Lord, Satan still tries to trap us with “just the thing” that appeals to who we are as a person. While the subject of false teaching is a vast one, there are a couple things I have learned over the years. Anytime a teaching offers to show you the “perfection” of God – beyond what is in the scriptures it is a false teaching. Our relationship with the Lord is deeply personal. When the Bible tells us that Jesus is a friend that sticks closer than a brother this is what it is talking about. There are false teachers out there that will offer you something that can “take you just a bit further” than you can get “on your own”. Can’t imagine exactly what another human being can do to get closer to a Savior that is already in our hearts. That seems to be a fairly close relationship. False teachers are persuasive. The truly deceptive teachers don’t tell you that you are wrong. They agree with you. In that vein they convince you that what they have is a natural extension of what you already possess. They speak in the terms that you present. If you are more political they will present their views framed in your conversation. Here is the catch – when they do speak to you, it will be from a perspective of they have found something that you would “naturally find” on your own – and now they want to help! However, I want to leave everybody with one last thought. You can always approach the Savior yourself with any questions you have. We all get so wrapped up in trying to force our own ideas that we forget that God himself is the final authority. He promises to be there for us and guide us. If you are confused about something you have heard then never hesitate to take it to prayer. It is when we come to the Savior with our confusion that he can build us. When we approach him, willing to seek his approval on anything we hear he will answer. The answer will come in a manner that is undeniable to us. Also, when we seek him for the truth on something, you can know that the needed answer will come before we have the chance to harm ourselves with the false doctrine. Take even the words of teachers of truth before the Throne of Christ. He must always be the first and last authority on the things we believe. Be willing to speak honestly with him. One of the hardest things to do is pray the hard confessions. Actually speaking aloud the things that scare us can be terrifying. Likewise, we get this unspoken fear in our hearts that if we should dare to say the things we fear then the Lord shall require it of us. It’s as though our prayer will be the first he has ever heard of what we spoke. “Oh no, I did not know you did that. Now you must do X, Y and Z because of it!” Remember, there is nothing you can talk to the Lord that he does not already know. When you approach him be willing to hear what he has to offer – even if it means discarding what you thought you knew. I have learned that this is key to gaining his wisdom and insight. I am thankful for what he does provide and even more thankful for what he withholds as His will is perfect and so are his reasons. I decided some time ago that I would gratefully discard any belief I held if he so required it. Learning is a lifelong process and the Lord can reach us in unmistakable ways – beyond even what Satan can duplicate. The Lord can show me the errors in my “knowledge” and I will know it is him doing so. He has done it before and I suspect he will do it again. Fortunately, we have reached a point in our relationship where I no longer require a round of attitude adjustments and his judgments to awaken me. I rather appreciate that it can be done with a simple, friendly word; “You was listening to X, Y and Z the other day. That was incorrect – here is what you need to know on that.” Just that easy he can come. It always comes with a scriptural confirmation at some point also. I am always grateful for such corrections as it means that God Himself is taking a personal interest in me! With that I bid everybody a happy and blessed day! Richard Kendrick ~ LS.
