Good morning everyone, Its Dakota Joe, Dontcha Know! It is 3/5 and we are waking up and getting packed up to tackle Roan Mountain. The Mountain Harbour Hostel is an excellent place and should be on your list if you are hostelling in the area. The AWOL book has the information and phone number. They sell snacks and have sodas available for .75 a can in the hostel fridge. Yes, the Hostel is above a barn, but you dont smell animals and it is not like an old barn. They have books to read and VHS tapes to watch if your zeroing here and a free town shuttle once a day. I am glad to be able to report great conditions here. Hot showers, clean bathroom, and a large common area complete the package. The wood burning stove is a plus too. We are well rested and it is time to depart. We have changed plans so many times over the course of the last week that I have learned that sitting down and mapping out your entire hike before you leave is a good idea to give you a general idea of where you want to be and when, but there are too many variables that will dictate your movement and you probably wont stick to your plan completely. You have to be versatile and flexabile sometimes. We still have our date set to hit Damascus on the 9th and zero on the 10th and maybe even the 11th as well. Then we are off and trucking again.
