Weather Situation A high in the Tasman Sea extends a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast. A new high will enter southeastern Australia on Sunday and is expected to strengthen as it shifts east into the Tasman Sea on Monday, reinforcing the ridge along the east Queensland coast and through the Gulf of Carpentaria. An upper trough will move east over southern Queensland during the weekend. Another upper trough will enter western Queensland on Monday and is expected to intensify while shifting east through the interior on Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Scattered showers about the central and east tropical coasts south of about Cairns. Isolated showers about the remaining east tropical coast, extending into the eastern tropical interior during the afternoon. Isolated showers over the southern coast, extending to the southeast inland during the afternoon and becoming more frequent about the Sunshine Coast and southern Wide Bay. Cloud extending through the central and southern interior though with only isolated, mostly light showers expected. Fine and mostly sunny in the northwest. Moderate southeasterly winds along the east coast, fresh and gusty north of Fraser Island.
