Good morning everyone. My password for today is... 2 Corinthians 6v14: Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: Paul is giving teaching in this letter to the Christians at Corinth. And in this passage he deals with the important subject of the unequal yoke. In ancient times the yoke was a crucial device. Made of wood and it linked the shoulders of two animals to a common task. So for example an ox could be yoked with another ox and together with equal force they could plough a straight furrow. Lots of animals could be yoked together. Such as bulls, heifers, horses and even donkeys, Sometimes the temperament of each animal was not suited to each other and it was the drivers job to see to it that they put their shoulders to the task in harmony. However, in the Mosaic law God forbade that two animals of different species should be yoked together. Their height, stride and strength would not be equal. And this would not only be comical to watch, but it could be dangerous or even hurtful to the animals. That is why an unequal yoke was forbidden. So for example, you would never find an ox in yoke with an ass. Paul applies this universal principle to the partnership relations that christians have. He doesnt specify whether he has in mind marriage or business although the yoke was a means of business. But what Paul is concerned about is that the christians do not get into a partnership with those who do not have faith in God. So he says... What communion hath light with darkness? What concord hath Christ with Belial? What part hath he that believeth with an infidel? What agreement hath the temple of God with idols?
