Good morning friends! With a cup of tea in hand I am sitting down to share some photos from an exhibit on miniature paintings and enamels that was being exhibited at The Metropolitan Museum in NYC in December. As many of you know, Mark and I are living history re-enactors, so research is a big deal in our house. Paintings and drawings are great resources for documentation, as well as, inspiration for most of my beadwork. The first four miniatures I am going to show you are painted on ivory and date from the last quarter of the 18th century, when having miniature paintings commissioned was at the height of fashion. The last is a painting (oil on canvas) of the young Princess Elizabeth I dated 1606. She has always been one of the women in history that I have most admired. Make sure to check out Elizabeths necklace. To see some of these famous paintings in person was quite a trill to me. To add to my excitement, the catalog was available but wasnt priced. The gal said Merry Christmas and sold this lovely hard cover book to me for $5.00! What a treasure. Happy beading and may you find inspiration at every turn. Enjoy!
