Good morning friends and family. It was with a heavy heart that I read this email this morning. I would like to respond to it publicly, as I am sure I know the mommy it refers to and would like to clarify a few points. Firstly, to the mommy concerned, my deepest apology. Starfish for Sofia is in no way intended to diminish the significance of your loss or the wonderful work you are doing. If I have hurt you, then I am deeply sorry. Secondly, Starfish for Sofia has ONE purpose. To raise funds in order to send underprivileged children under the age of 3 years to our affiliated swimming schools, so far in 5 of the 9 provinces. Its purpose is in no way intended to be an awareness campaign for child safety in terms of accidents, electricity, abuse, fire etc. We are registering as an NPC or Section 21 Company in terms of the Company Intellectual Property Commission, previously known as CIPRO, popularly known as DTI, in line with the requirements as laid out by the NPO Act no. 71 of 1997. As soon as we have our website up and running, our draft constitution and memorandum of incorporation with this one sole purpose can be made available to the public. This is all being done with an accountant and a lawyer to ensure transparency and accountability. Thirdly, I truly believe that the more organisations there are in South Africa, the more childhood tragedies we can prevent. Just think of the numerous cancer organisations there are and the good work they have done. I do not believe that this type of campaign should be limited to one organisation, as this defeats the object of prevention. Lastly, I am only human. I lost my only child and am going through a rather difficult time. I am a full-time final year student on the Tygerberg medical campus. I am moving at the end of the month. I am going through a rather complicated divorce which was put into motion before Sofia passed away. I do not always reply to all comments, posts, messages or emails. For that I am also sorry. I hope to be more on top of things in the future. Constructive criticism is always welcome, as it helps me to know how I can improve the running of Starfish for Sofia and do better. So I have thanked the individual who sent this, as I really do appreciate the feedback. I encourage anybody else who has advice or feedback in this regard to also try to get hold of me, as it can only help to improve our chance of success. Thank you and much love Sofias mommy Claire
