Good morning from KTJS News Clear in Hobart, 52 degrees winds northwest at 8mph The memory of three local law enforcement officers from Washita county will be among those to be honored and preserved in services today at the Oklahoma Law Enforcement Memoial in Oklahoma City. They are Washita County Deputy Sheriff Doug Hanna, Washita County Undersheriff Brian Beck and Burns Flat Police Officer Kristian Daniel Willhight. All Three were killed in traffic accidents which occurred in the line of duty. Forty four year old Doug Hanna died when his vehicle was hit by a pickup during an emergency run. Beck, age 40 and Willhite, 36, were killed when their patrol units collided January 23rd near Dill city while involved in a pursuit. Other deceased officers to be honored are County Deputy Kelly Chase, an Oklahoma City police officer cadet and Mitchell Weeks a McAlaster Patrolman Altus residents may face tougher water use restrictions this summer if drought continues and the level of water doesnt improve at Tom Steed Reservoir. The Altus city council has been debating the issue, but no action has yet been taken. Altus is at stage three restrictions. It has been suggested they eliminate all outside water use except for industrial, moving to stage four. Altus has been at stage three for a little over a year. One council member says the water actually saved at stage three for the past year amounted only as much as the lake would naturally lose by evaporation in a week. Tom Steed reservoir is now fifteen feet below normal. Lake Altus Lugert, which is considered a backup source, is at a dismal 10.9 percent capacity this morning. The Sayre Chamber of Commerce will hold a Lunch and Learn event Thursday May 15th with speaker Cherrie Nutley of Sayre Memorial Hospital. Cherrie and a panel of health care providers will discuss how to make an informed choice in today’s health care market. The program will be at noon at the Southwestern State University Sayre campus Mackey Hall room 130. Lunch will be provided. The cost is ten dollars. The Oklahoma Main Street Center announced winners in twenty competitive categories at this weeks annual Main Street Awards banquet in OKC. Altus won for its Christmas Windows display program and for the best business signage which was the NBC Bank Building. Hobart was named in states top three for outstanding Main Street programs. Did you get your information card in the mail ? We are asked to fill a sack with nonperishable foods and place them near the mailbox for pickup by our mail carriers this Saturday. The Lone Wolf Senior Citizens Center will sponsor a fundraiser roast beef dinner this Sunday May 11th from 11:30am till 1:30pm at the center. Bring mom for mothers day. Everyone is welcome. The Mangum and Granite Senior Citizens Centers will be closed today so that participants may attend the Golden Age Festival in Altus. Hobarts Shortgrass Playhouse will hold auditions for its first Shortgrass Playhouse Comedy Night this coming Monday May 12 at 7pm at City Hall Theatre. Performances will be June 20th thru 22nd. OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Governor Mary Fallins Democratic opponent in the race for Oklahoma governor wants he calls an independent probe into last weeks botched execution of a death row inmate. State Representative Joe Dorman of Rush Springs said yesterday he wants the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to conduct the investigation into last weeks execution of Clayton Lockett. A doctor said Locketts vein collapsed during the lethal injection. OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahomas attorney general has agreed to a six-month stay of execution for a death row inmate scheduled to die next week while an investigation is conducted into last weeks botched lethal injection. In a filing Thursday with the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals, Attorney General Scott Pruitts office said it will not object to a 180-day stay of execution while the investigation is underway. OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Oklahoma Senate has voted to override Governor Mary Fallins veto of a House bill dealing with federal gun regulations. The Senate action is the latest signal of growing tension between the Republican governor and the GOP-controlled Legislature. Last week, Fallin vetoed 15 House bills she says were unnecessary or didnt have a meaningful purpose.
