Good morning... showers and thunderstorms rolled through in the pre-dawn hours and in some places are still continuing this morning. We expect this early morning activity to end from NW to SE and exit the NJ coastline around mid-morning or shortly thereafter. Our attention then turns to the cloud cover. How much of the clouds and fog lift/erode, and how much sun do we see to destabilize the atmosphere and set up this afternoons severe weather potential? This is what we will be following this morning with vested interest - satellite imagery. Simply stated, more clouds and little sun does two things: prevents convective temperatures from being reached and stabilizes the atmosphere to keep the storms below severe limits. Sun breaks out = game on. We have the severe threat today completely covered as well as your local forecast which take you through the upcoming holiday weekend and into next week at the links below. We will provide updates as needed this morning and afternoon on the severe threat (nowcasting) as needed here and in rapid fashion on Twitter.
