Good news - finally :) Carol Nash are going to pull my ass out of the fire and bring the bike to the Isle of Man. They now agree that having the bike fixed by an authorised BMW dealer in Spain would likely be far more costly than having the bike shipped back and having the work done there under warranty. CarolNash/AXA are sending a recovery truck down from the UK rather then using the local boys to be sure the bike is looked after properly, what a relief. They also offered to fly me and my gear home, its not needed but good to know to offer was there if I had needed it. Right now Im so happy I stuck with CarolNash/Axa instead of going with the BMW Insurance, after my experience yesterday with their customer non-service line and tricky warranty its a no thanks from me, Ill stick with CN/AXA, good to know its still possible to get what you pay for, so top marks for CarolNash/Axa. With a bit of luck Ill get the bike picked up next week and if so I just might have the time to be able to continue some of the planned trip on my other backup F800GS. Battered, scraped and rather ugly she may be - but while less photogenic then my 800GSA she works and I still love her dearly ;) Feck what a relief, I can rest assured that the broken bike gets home and sees a mechanic/dealer I know and trust.... To me a good mechanic is worth his/her weight in gold in my book. So todays Top Tip of the Day is this, dont break down in Spain on a BMW, but if you do make sure (read the small print) youve got a good EU break down recovery insurance policy to back you up if, however unlikely, the shit goes south ;) I say unlikely because over the last 14 years Ive been riding BMWs Ive clocked up some impressive touring and home miles and this is the 1st time Ive ever had a problem. Ive only had 2 punctures and 1 clogged up fuel line in nearly 20 years so Ive had a good run!! My recent experience is just bad luck and Ive yet to see what awaits when the prognosis comes back on the F800GSAs fault. My gut feeling is its probably an easy fix or if theres even a problem at all, and the Spanish dealer who wanted to split open the engine was either covering ass or taking advantage of my situation. But as Im not a mechanic I cant say that the problem is not serious either, the Spanish mechanic may well know his stuff and may have had a good reason to want to crack open the engine. At least he warned me that Id be footing the bill, so its also possible he was (in his own way) warning me to find another solution and force either BMW or my insurance to get the bike home. The fact 2 other BMW dealers refused to get involved with the bike might suggest this also, I prefer to see the potential good in people and not the bad so Im going to go with this theory for now ;) Either way for now Im back on the road, its 28 degrees C here in Spain and the roads are dry, so Im going to get off the laptop, pull out my working bike and ride the bejeasus out of it ;) Thanks for all the replys and offers of help/advice folks, safe riding...
