Good news: Liver cell transplant gives baby new lease of life In a first-of-its-kind procedure in Japan, doctors have transplanted liver cells into an 11-day-old infant, giving the boy a new lease of life after his organ failed to function properly. The doctors used surplus liver cells left frozen after 14 living liver transplantations it conducted since May 2011 in order to treat the “globally rare case”. World’s oldest globe found: Scientists have discovered the oldest globe of the New World, dating back to the early 1500s — and it is carved onto ostrich eggs. The globe, about the size of a grapefruit, was made from the lower halves of two ostrich eggs. Until now, it was thought the oldest globe mapping the New World was the ‘Lenox Globe’ at the New York Public Library, but researchers said this Renaissance globe was used to cast the copper Lenox globe, putting its date to 1504 AD.
