Good news! Today the Obama administration announced it will again delay its decision to approve the Keystone XL oil pipeline possibly past the midterm elections. Via The Hill: Officials said they are stopping the clock on an assessment of the controversial project due to litigation in Nebraska over the pipelines proposed route. The department said it notified eight federal agencies engaged in the review that it would provide more time for the submission of their views on Keystone XL. In addition, during this time we will review and appropriately consider the unprecedented number of new public comments, approximately 2.5 million, received during the public comment period that closed on March 7, 2014, the agency said. The core reason for allowing agencies extra time, a State Department official said, is the potential impact of the Nebraska Supreme Court case. A ruling from the Nebraska court isnt expected to come until January 2015, at the earliest. The State Department said the review process will only wrap up once all factors that help determine whether the pipeline is in the national interest are evaluated and appropriately reflected in the decision documents. State declined to provide a specific timeline for action, effectively putting the project in limbo. -Erika
