Good news for Southern Resident orcas! Please submit your comments to encourage NOAA Fisheries to include the West Coast as critical habitat for the Southern Resident orcas. We have known for decades that Southern Residents travel and forage for salmon all along the west coast, and it should be included in the habitat that is critical and necessary for their survival. April 24, 2014 Critical Habitat petition: NOAA Fisheries announced in a Federal Register notice today that we have accepted a petition to revise the critical habitat designation for the Southern Resident killer whale distinct population segment (DPS) under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). The petition asks us to consider expanding critical habitat to include coastal habitat along the West Coast.
