Good news from Hampshire Highways who I emailed to consider our complaint of speeding at CHERQUE WAY and harm caused to wildlife. This is the reply- I refer to your enquiry regarding concerns about traffic speeds on Cherque Way. I apologise for the delay in this response, but we have been dealing a very high number of enquiries recently. We have investigated similar concerns about Cherque Way before and carried out some speed surveys. The Police have also previously undertaken some enforcement there. It would not be practical to install continuous lengths of barriers along the route but I will ask my colleague Chris Cole to investigate your concerns further. He will check the latest speed data, or if necessary arrange further surveys and consult the Police. Please bear with us whilst we investigate this matter further, as if more surveys are required they are usually carried out during school term time to obtain data on more usual weekdays. Your enquiry has been initially assessed, and we now need to undertake further investigations into the problem. We endeavour to undertake these investigations within two weeks, but this can be dependant upon weather conditions. It was also felt that a survey might be done better when the traffic is heavier at peak times when the children at school. My response was that now is also a good time as during the school holidays children themselves might be more at risk. As soon as I receive any further information I will let you know. Jeanette
