Good post Poppa Dawg sunny Salmon Arm Friday morning fellow Calgary live music lovers. A very busy day & night out there live music-wise so there should be something to suit everyone’s musical taste. Let’s start at Mikey’s where happy hour runs 4-7 and today its Mariel Buckley providing the tunage whilst celebrating her birthday; then there’s more birthday celebrations in order tonight for Todd Maduke when he and the Rest of the Ruminants take over the stage. Wine-Ohs plays host to the Spaghetti Western Festival Kick-off Partee tonight featuring the Ramblin’ Ambassadors, Bitterweed Draw & Tin and the Toad. The actual festival runs free tomorrow from noon to nine at Olympic Plaza. See tomorrow’s post. Just found out that “saviors of country music” Petunia & The Vipers are in town and playing the Bow Cabin (6332 Bow Crescent NW) tonight. Should be a gooder also at the Ironwood tonight with Steve Pineo and Friends’ annual Dead Elvis Tribute. Reservations definitely recommended for that one. Peer Support are having their EP Release at the Palomino and will be joined by Magik Spells and I Am The Mountain. Broken City has The Ashley Hundred and Windigo. Fresh As Death, The Mourning After and 22x are playing the Blind Beggar. Looking for some good blues…..the JC Smith Band are at The Blues Can. BTW Tim Leacock plays solo at the Can for lunch and Peter Fisher is their happy hour pianoman. Alex Zayas brings his brand of blues power to the Vintage Chophouse. Gary Martin and The heavenly Blues Band are at the Elbow River Casino. Looking for some jazz, the Lorna Maclachlan Quartet is playing Lolita’s. If country is your quest…. rising star Quentin Reddy is at Fionn MacCools while the Netty Mac train stops at Big Als tonight and Shannon Smith is at the Swine & Sow. Newlywed Scotty Hills is playing 500 Cucina. Vincent Bundick is at Gravity. Buddies the Rustic Bros Ver. 2 are playing the Shamrock, The Kids are at Watchmans and the Mike Mackenzie Band is rockin’ it out at Hexters. Forty-Five play Murrietas, Get It is at Bookers, Backwater are at Woodys South and the Sub Urban Dwellers are playing the Winkin’ Owl. The Rose & Crown has New Soul, Passage are at the Riverstone and Hotrod Kitty is playing Chelseas. Suite 33 are playing Richmonds Pub while Wasted Nation are rockin’ Morgans. It’s the second day of Taste of Calgary down at Eau Claire and today’s musical talent includes the Rosewood Band, Swift Oliver, Mariachi Nacional and the Third Reel Celtic Band. Things kick off at 1130 and run through 9. Talking festivals the Calgary Reggaefest kicks off tonight down at Shaw Millenium Park with Infiniti, Mountain Edge Roots & Culture Band, Raging Fyah, and the Uno Band. 300 klicks north the Edmonton Blues Festival also gets underway tonight with the Front Porch Review, Nighthawks, and Robert Cray. Down South Nanton way the Shady Grove Music Festival gets under way with John Wort Hannam, Prairies Edge, The Quebe Sisters, Lost & Found. Out west Kyemara are at the Canmore Hotel, No Island are playing the Elk & Oarsmen in Banff and Matt Beatty & The 2nd String Cowboys are into night two at Wild Bills and same for the Wildrose Ramblers across the street at the Rose & Crown.
