Good/sad story from this last work week.. Guy calls wanting to know info on his electric jacks in his fifth wheel. Said it falls out completely... and had a major trip planned for the next few weeks starting saturday. What i did not know is his 13 year old niece is slowly dying from a cancer (dont know the type or name) that is not treatable or curable.... He stopped by on friday and i said his jack was broken after inspecting it and i said i had a new one in stock. (Realized it was the wrong one after saying it was.. Theres ways to fix that issue though) Upon removing the original jack leg we (the other tech i work with) found a roll pin came loose. We replaced the pin and the jack leg worked perfectly... While knees deep in grease and tearing apart the jack the retired navy vet told me about his plans to spend the last remaining weeks to months on the road with his niece camping because its what she likes to do... He also said he dropped over a thousand dollars into the fifth wheel just to make it road worthy of his lengthy travels the week before.... With the jack fixed, the service writer charged the minimum labor rate and what the part cost. The customer paid less than 100$ for the fix even though it took over an hour to fix. The customer said the cost is nothing at the moment.. Time with his niece was worth thousands. He also said that if we could fix his trailer, we would make a 13 year old wishes come true. This is why i work in the RV industry. I do it for the customer to keep them happy no matter the cost in my time.
