>>Good start for the offense. As advertised, the offense is aggressive. Offensive coordinator Norv Turner came out calling plays designed to gain yards in chunks, and the Browns got a few of them through the first two series. Quarterback Brandon Weeden looked sharp. He showed solid command of the new scheme and made mostly good decisions with where to go with the ball. Running back Dion Lewis, who caught a two-yard touchdown pass from Weeden at the start of the second quarter, continues to show the All-Berea form that has made him one of the talk of training camp. His short-area explosiveness allows him to find space quickly, and he is extremely evasive. >>Solid opening drive. It wasn’t just that the Browns’ first possession ended with points. It was the way they moved the ball, picking up nice gains with passes and runs. Lewis was explosive with the ball in his hands, and keeps showing the ability to make something out of nothing. Wide receiver Greg Little showed excellent awareness – not to mention athleticism — in leaping to catch a tipped pass from tight end Cameron Jordan for a 14-yard gain that helped set up Brandon Bogotay’s 25-yard field goal. >>First signs of big-play defense. Although the defense had some shaky moments on the Rams’ first possession, it more than made up for it when nose tackle Phil Taylor forced a fumble that Buster Skrine recovered to set up the Browns’ first touchdown drive. Taylor did an impressive job of hammering the ball out of running back Isaiah Pead’s grasp. It is a continuation of the emphasis throughout the offseason and training camp on causing turnovers. >>Kick-return promise. Travis Benjamin established himself as a highly dangerous returner as a rookie last year. With refined skills, he is likely to be even a larger threat this season. Benjamin demonstrated as much with his 91-yard punt return for a touchdown, weaving his way around would-be tacklers to reach the end zone untouched.
