Good stuff from Bob … I was lucky -- Uncle Sam paid for my MA and PhD … I would have a hard time justifying pursuing anything beyond my MA if it were not for that. Remember, you can live the Life of the Mind without a PhD. And frankly, I like making money. There is so much of it to be made outside Academia or in the military (tho I do continue to feed the DoD trough, just not in uniform … a promotion to O-6 would have cost me crazy money; I prefer to be a contractor …). I guess that makes me a crass cynical capitalist, but at least Im not a poor disgruntled hypocrite.
