Good to see the young girls of Nairobis Buru Buru Girls and Huruma Girls on TV starting their exams. I have cherished memories of the two as the only two schools where I have ever taught. After serving my suspension from KU, I was called back in September 1998 and directed to proceed straight to Buru Buru Girls for my Teaching Practice. Even before the year ended, there was a teachers strike and I joined it. Consequently I was kicked out of the school before completing my TP. In May 1999 I was sent to Huruma Girls for another TP. This time I played it safe. But I missed expulsion narrowly after I put the picture of school head girl in the Nation newspapers, to go with a story I had done about the fate of prefects in Kenyan schools. I had not consulted the headmistress before doing it and she was not amused. I apologized and was allowed to complete the session on time form the graduation in December. To those dear girls, and to candidates of our Munyange Secondary school in my village, best wishes in your exams.
