Good work last night from Johanna Coats and her Mechanicals. Starting to really gel. I can say quite confidently that Amanda Lees version of Moonshine is the most unusual, original and hilarious take on the character I have ever seen. You will agree. I dare not give away more. I had that moment I love where I am totally surprised as a director. Set them free director friends! Set them free! I remember an SCTC skit from the 80s where they did one of those record collection promo things for Perry Como as the worlds most relaxed performer. At one point, Como was lying on the stage singing into a microphone placed by his mouth. Josh Keens lion is even more low energy and also the most low energy hilarity I have ever seen in that part. The guy can barely make it onto the stage much less roar or chew or mangle. Poor guy. He is still worried that he might affright the ladies. That is called finding the deep truth of a character as written and taking it to its ultimate and funniest point. And still real!!! Bravo! Table work with three of the lovers was also beneficial. Punctuation! Repetitions! Comparisons! Lists! Phrasing! All important work! Nicely done. Now to sell some tickets. The song says one is the loneliest number. Nope. Its Zed.
