Google is excited to announce and be the host of DC Hack 2014! This hackathon event will take place at Google DC’s office and last 24 hours, starting at 12:00pm on Saturday, October 25. All Howard and Hampton University computer science students are encouraged to attend! We only have space for up to 100 students though, so please RSVP early and absolutely no later than Monday, October 13, 2014. You will receive final confirmation of attendance by Friday, October 17, 2014. In the RSVP form, you will have the option to sign up as an individual, or as a team of 3-5 other students. If you sign up as an individual, you will be placed on a team made up of other individuals. If you sign up as a team, you will need to include your team name. Please make sure that all of your teammates RSVP with the same team name. Whether you’ve participated in many hacks or none at all, this is your chance to bring a new ideas to life by building a working prototype alongside your peers and industry professionals. To entice you further, it all takes place in a brand new and very Googley space! This means copious amounts of food, snacks, caffeine - maybe even some music and a soft spot for a power nap. More info will be shared with those that RSVP, but here are a few questions you may be thinking about: FAQ Do I need programming experience to attend? Yes, programming experience is required, though this hack is intended for students of varying computer science experience levels of. You do not need to have any specific language experience though. Whether you’re currently in your fist computer science class or have already taken tons of CS classes, we welcome you to this hack! What’s the agenda? More details will be sent to confirmed participants, but you can expect an action-packed 24 hours at Google! While most of your time will be spent on idea generation, prototyping, coding, and group collaboration, there will be time set aside for networking with your peers and Googlers, learning more about the ‘life of an engineer’, and experiencing the culture of Google. Who from Google will be attending? Many software engineers from varying backgrounds will be participating, as well as other HBCU alumni from various roles across Google. This will be an excellent opportunity for networking and getting all your Google-specific questions answered! How will I get to/from the Google DC office? Google will provide bus transportation from your school to the Google DC on Saturday, October 25, 2014 and make the return trip on Sunday, October 26. Transportation details will be shared with confirmed hack participants. Can students outside of Howard or Hampton attend? As of right now, we don’t anticipate having room for students from other schools. However, we will be sure to let you know if that changes!
