Gorkha Janmukti Morcha Chief Bimal Gurung Speaks for Sikkims Girl I join everyone here in Darjeeling in condemning the horrific incidence and ordeal that a 1st year student from Sikkim had to endure at Vishva Bharati, Shantiniketan. It is highly reprehensible that a young student from the hills was not only stripped but also blackmailed by her seniors at one of India’s most revered institutes – Vishva Bharati. I am not only shocked, but being a father of a daughter myself, I am deeply hurt at the pain and anguish the girl and her father had to experience, due to the callous and demeaning attitude and the complete lack of empathy shown by the Vishva Bharati authorities in dealing with this heinous crime. It pains me to note that Vishva Bharati - an institute which was founded with highest of ideals by Gurudev Rabindra Nath Tagore has today not only failed to protect a young scholar, but the university authorities have in fact traumatized her further. Children from our hills travel across the nation to acquire quality education, and their safety and security is the responsibility of the concerned university authorities. This incidence has given us reason to question the safety and security of our students who are currently studying at Vishva Bharati. I am hopeful that the Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the Chancellor of Vishva Bharati, will take proper steps to ensure that justice is delivered. I on behalf of the people of Darjeeling extend my support to the young student, and assure her that we stand by her, in her quest for justice. पहिलो वर्षमा अध्ययनरत् सिक्किमकी छात्रामाथि विश्व भारती शान्ति निकेतनमा भएको अमानवीय घटनाप्रति सम्पूर्ण दार्जीलिङवासीको पक्षमा म घोर विरोध जनाउँदछु। यस घटनाले मलाई चकितात्रै होइन तर एउटी छोरीको पिता भएको नाताले गहिरो आघात पनि पुर्याएको छ। यस घटनाले पीड़िताको पिता अथवा अभिभावकहरूलाई कस्तो आघात पुर्याएको छ त्यसको अनुभव मैले वोध गरिरहेको छु। गुरूदेव रवीन्द्रनाथ टेगोरको उच्च धारणालाई आधार बनाएर अहिलेसम्म गरिमामय इतिहास बोकेको विश्वभारतीले आज आएर आफ्नो एउटा छात्राको सुरक्षा गर्नमात्रै चुकेका छैनन् तर उक्त विश्वविद्यालयकै कर्तृपक्षद्वारा नै घटनासम्बन्धित सत्य कुराको ढाकछोप गरिने काम पनि भइरहेको छ। यस कुराले झनै मलाई आहत बनाइरहेको छ। हाम्रा पहाड़का छोराछोरीहरू गुणस्तरीय शिक्षाको सपना बोकेर देशका विभिन्न संस्थानहरूमा भर्ना लिने गरेका छन् भने उनीहरूको सुरक्षा व्यवस्थाको जिम्मेवार सम्बन्धित शैक्षिक संस्थानहरूको हुन जान्छ। यस घटनापछि अब हालमा विश्वभारतीमा अध्ययनरत् हाम्रा अन्य विद्यार्थीहरूको सुरक्षा व्यवस्थामाथि पनि प्रश्नचिह्न उभ्याइदिएको छ। विश्वभारतीजस्तो भारतको एक प्रतिष्ठित शैक्षिक संस्थानमा पहाड़की छात्रामाथि सिनियर विद्यार्थीहरूबाट शोषणमात्रै नभएर ब्ल्याकमेलसमेत गरिनु भनेको अति नै लज्जास्पद अनि निन्दनीय घटना हो। विश्वभारतीका चान्सलर भएको नाताले माननीय प्रधानमन्त्री नरेन्द्र मोदीजीले यस विषयलाई ध्यान दिएर आवश्यक पदक्षेप उठाई पीड़ितालाई न्याय दिलाउनेछन् भन्ने कुरामा म आशावादी रहेको छु। सम्पूर्ण दार्जीलिङवासीको पक्षबाट पीड़िता छात्रा अनि उनको परिवारलाई सहयोगको निम्ति तयार रहेको जनाउन चाहन्छु। आवश्यकता परेको खण्डमा म सदैव पीड़िताको सहयोगको निम्ति उभिनेछु भन्ने आश्वस्त गराउन चाहन्छु।
