Gospel Lk 2:36-40 Todays gospel tells us, very briefly, about a prophetess, Anna, who as a widow for many years devoted her life to worship, through prayer and fasting. The end of this gospel speaks of the child whose parents fulfill the prescriptions of the law and would grow strong with wisdom and the favor of God would be upon Him. This, of course, is the Christ-child that she is talking about. I cant help but notice the similarity of our Nuns who often our cloistered, praying, fasting and worshiping God daily. Religious sisters, who have dedicated their lives to living the gospel. It also seems that the description Anna gives regarding Jesus, applies to each of us as children, when are parents fulfill the prescriptions of the Church and we are baptized. It would seem that God favors each of us to be His instruments of peace in a very unsettled world. You see each of us are destined from our birth to follow in the footsteps of Our Lord and Savior. We are called by our baptism, to be instruments of God and bring light on the redemption Christ brought with His death, through our example of love toward others. May Gods grace-filled favor be upon each of us everyday, and give us the strength and fortitude to do His will. Peace and blessings this Tuesday morning. There was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived seven years with her husband after her marriage, and then as a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple, but worshiped night and day with fasting and prayer. And coming forward at that very time, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were awaiting the redemption of Jerusalem. When they had fulfilled all the prescriptions of the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. The child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him.
