Got a good sleep last night but a bit of a crappy morning for Tahlia. Temperature has stayed down by itself since 11pm last night and she made it through to 5:30 this morning before she needed oxygen. The latest canula decided to crap out this morning so had to be removed. There was discussion of leaving it out and adjusting her meds for a while, then they needed blood for a potassium level. Its only 1ml of blood so its usually done with a finger prick. Tahlia hates finger pricks. All the crap this kid has put up with and getting a quick stab in the finger sends her into hysterics. Mat and I both tried to talk her around, there was 4 nurses in here at one point trying to settle her down. After an hour everyone gave up and a doctor was found to take blood from her arm. Why didnt they do this in the first place? As Tahlias canulas are failing quickly and the number of blood tests she has already had from her elbows, the doctors are concerned that her veins may scar up and be unusable if they keep having to stab them. This creates more problems of needing to use ultrasound to get deeper veins. Doctor came to do the blood test and it was decided on the spot that putting in the newest canula now rather than later was a good plan...except for Tahlia who started to get upset again because she didnt have emla cream on to numb the area. I managed to talk her round this time and the new canula went in first go with only a little more pain than a normal blood test. After this tiring little episode, I got her showered and back in bed and she is now having a sleep. No further news on the diagnosis front yet.
