Got hung up watching a very lively discussion among preppers and found myself entertained by the different categories of personality present... but after a while, I realized that 80% of those people will likely never survive whatever it is they are prepping for. No matter what your prepping flavor is, be it economic collapse, social demise, governmental, or outside invasion... whatever... no matter your brand of crazy, stocking up on laundry detergent wont actually prepare you for anything. The single most important thing to prepping... to actually be prepared for what may come... is to live it. Prepping isnt a hobby or a conspiracy theory, its a lifestyle change. (At least it is if you wanna survive...) If your plan includes the power going out, cut the power for a week and adjust your life to suit what you find you really wish you had in place just in case the power never came back on. Dust off that dutch oven and get good at cooking in it in a fire. Call it a drill. Friday after work set off on foot toward your emergency remote location and spend the weekend there. See how that goes. Adjust as necessary. Trap some game, prepare it and actually eat it. Practice a season of gardening and then dont ever stop... the best tool a pepper can have is an independently sustainable lifestyle. You get the idea. Sorry... my entertainment went the way of disappointment and it rattled my opinion a bit.
