Got in trouble for posting the petition but was forgiven and it was put elsewhere by the site owner. Well said Lesley. PROJECT MISSION STATEMENT!! WE, THE PEOPLE.... One of the wisest things I think I have ever read - and it comes from a politician (oh-ho!) and a Tory - and a Lord to boot - but in the 1880s, during parliamentary discussions over the British Repeal Of The Corn Law Act, in a long speech (this bit of which I remember sending round to the few Sons of the Desert that HAD managed to contact us!) is Lord MacCauleys remark: We must change - so that we remain the same....... I am all for tradition and despise people changing like the wind sometimes now just for anything new, uncaring whether it might be for good or bad, just because its the latest trend, jumping in, eyes shut (and look where its got us people) - because a certain amount of flexibility and adaption is ALWAYS necessary - to keep and not to lose what you know is right and what you love! This is why history - and the L&H Project story, which is, in parts, eerily similar to our story today,TOO similar! - is important to get out there in various forms and to as many people as possible........Very little has changed, fundamentally,in the ensuing 100 years+, to basic human nature - we just dont evolve that quickly! Although any student of Darwin will tell you that we do have evolutionary jumps every now and then (otherwise wed still all be living in caves) - its vital to look back in history to see how they did things, and what went wrong - and right! Unfortunately, it rarely happens, and back we go into the cycles that we struggle to come out of, time and time again......Our boom and bust times......They happen every 20 or more years or so, actually, this one was a little overdue, but Stan and Oliver had to cope, along with everybody else, through the Great Depression, the like of which - and the ramifications of which - has only be seen recently.....Good and bad! They were two ordinary men, yet with extra-ordinary talent - during extraordinary times, that will simply never happen again in the exact same way, but will happen again in other ways, you can count on that! But still, two ordinary men who didnt always do the right thing, make all the right choices, let opportunities slip by and so on. Thats why they portrayed two of them time and time again. Not kings or queens, or war heroes or celebrities, just two ordinary (very ordinary!) guys making their way in the world - just like the rest of us! The two little underdogs, nobodies - that somehow or another, bounce back giving us all hope as well as amusement - time and time again. They might not have been rich,or famous - but they survived! If anyone has seen Only Fools and Horses, its a format that, yet again has worked very well, decades later - because people dont change that much over that amount of time! A format that constantly will continue to work, especially as we continue making the same mistakes...........Because its really the ordinary people that make history - not those others, they merely flare up and fade quick - but US, we continually make history. Its time we all remembered that and reminded ourselves........... WE, THE PEOPLE......
