Got into it with a Chicago sports radio talker who called Milwaukee a city of stupid saps for cheering Ryan Braun on opening day. Then a former Milwaukee sports caster now in Chicago got into it w various Milwaukee people because we didnt counterpoint but wouldnt criticize her Chicago counterpart. So here goes. We cheer because we work hard and need something silly like sports to blow off steam. We cheer because were tired of big city folk mocking the fact we like and support those close to us. We cheer the beauty of a Ray Allen jumper, (back when he was in Milwaukee), a crushing John Kuhn block, a tough Danny Lecours goal and, yes, a sweeping swing of Ryan Brauns bat as the ball floats to the right field bleachers. We cheer because someone served his sentence and we wish him encouragement on his return. But mainly we cheer because we wish to be happy and make others happy rather than striving to bring anger and hatred into ours and others lives.
