Got my google inbox and playing around with it and will take some getting used to. I have a good system of working through my email in gmail that has been fine tuned over the years. I used some helper apps, lots of filters/labels, and triage incoming stuff based on whether I need to retrieve, act on it, delete, ignore, or turn it into a task or calendar deadline. I do a lot of linking of emails to my Google calendar, and color code for tasks while they sit in my inbox. I spent a fair amount of time trying to translate this work to google inbox and I cant seem to do all of it. Sigh ... adopting inbox now requires ditching a system that works for me. Google inbox is well designed for to do lists and tasks and reminders and checking things off your list, but I hate that there isnt an easy way to link to google calendar which I do a lot -- from automatically adding an appointment to simply putting the link of the specific gmail email in my calendar so I can easily grab for reference. I like the bundling and how it automates that -- but a task list in isolation of calendar and ability to easily retrieve for deeper dive is missing. An example of the latter ... a lot of my workflow consists of writing articles, blog posts, or other written info where I use contact from an email message or its attachment. Ive trained myself to pull this stuff out of email and into a place where I can aggregate it and retrieve when Im ready to work on writing the article or post, prepping for a meeting/call, or whatever. I dont like to archive it and then have to search for it - that gives me vertigo and if it is a writing project Im more likely to procrastinate if I go into my email to grab stuff. I love the bundles, which I could create my own, although these are just smart labels (I use a lot of labels). For me, this isnt an app where Id immediately ditch my gmail but I will play with ways to make it work because I think the bundles and the ability to scan info is useful. cc: Tamar Weinberg Howard Greenstein Susan Beebe
