Today I will share my sisfur Tori with you. Or Tori Little Foot as my typist calls her. The first picy is of her before and the second is now. Tori is also 8 years old and she is our miracle kitty! She was not supposed to make it past a year old as she is a special needs kitteh. When she came into the shelter my typist thought she was a lot younger than she was because she was soooo small. She was also sick with a URI, upper respiratory infection, so she went right into ISO. After 10 days of meds, she was allowed out into my typists room and put in a cage with other kittehs her age. She would hang out in the corner of the cage and was always sick, in and out of ISO. When she wasnt sick she was so small my typist would put her in her scrub pocket and she would go around the shelter with her. Her head would be lookin out and it was so cute! After she was there for awhile it became clear that there was something really wrong with her. She was not growin like the other kittehs and she was always sick. This was a no kill shelter but when new management came, some decisions had to be made about who was too sick and beyond our help. There were a couple of dogs and Tori who were slotted to be PTS. My typist said oh hell NO! Not my little Tori. So she brought a wire cage home and took Tori with her. She said let me see what I can do away from the shelter. It was summer time so she set the cage on the screened in porch and would let Tori out on the porch when she was home. At the same time the daddie became very sick and he too would sit on the porch and of course he couldnt stand her bein in the cage so he would let her out. She would climb up him pant leg, get on his shoulder and knead while suckin his long hair. They took care of each other and nursed each other back to health. So you know that she wasnt goin anywhere cuz she was now HIS kitteh! That made #4. My typist and the daddie realized there was somethin just not right about her so after many Vet visits it was determined that she was born with dwarfism, that none of her organs had fully developed, including her brain, she had SERIOUS skin issues, her bones were very delicate, the puples of her eyes were so high that the iris does not go all the way around and they said if she lived to be a year old it would be a miracle. So they set about makin her as happy as she could be in her state. Because of her mental issues she would pick the narrowest place she could find or the smallest place, go up there doze off and fall down. Get back up and do it over and over and over again. She broke her toe one time when she fell. In her first 6 years of life she got little or no sleep! The ONLY time she wasnt doin this was when shed come to eat. Also for the first 6 years of her life she only weighed 2 1/2 lbs. One day 2 years ago, when my typist was at the Vets, the Vet said you know her skin condition really worries me. Poor Tori was almost always full of scabs and had little or no hair. Lets try her on steroids. She gave her a steroid shot and told her to come back in a week and she would do one more if it seemed to help. That nite the Vet called and asked how she was doin. My typist told her oh my God, shes a real kitty now! She was runnin around playin with the toys and interactin with everyone for the first time in her life! Today she gets a steroid shot every 2-3 months and blood work done every 6 months to make sure the steroids arent affectin her. She does have to be on a low protein diet but thats it. She no longer lays in the places where she can fall, she spends time with my typist and us and luvs the nip! She also weighs 6.2 lbs! Shes a little butch when she walks, its so funny! Thats not to say she doesnt still have issues. She will never be mentally all there, we still have to watch how high of a place she jumps down from, so she does break any bones and she still cant jump very high and when she does jump its after a number of false starts. She still cries like a baby in her sleep. It took her a long time to accept my typist, after her daddie died, in the way she luved him but now she comes and cries for her to pick her up and let her snuggle on my typists shoulder. Tori Little Foot has been such a blessin to have in the family and obviously has a strong will to live!
