Got off this morning, figuratively, no literally, well I got off work rather at 6:30 am and drove along East Valley Road in Montecito where some of the entry ways cost more than most peoples homes down past Huguette Clarks Mansion, the one Ty Warner offered her $100 million cash for, which she turned down, so he bought 5 homes next door and tore them all down and spent $150 million to build his house, along East beach and the palm trees, the sun was rising and it was golden gold I mean really gold and the sea was sparkling, shimmering blue green, the islands, you could see all the way to Ventura, so, I changed clothes and walked down to the original Sambos Restaurant, which is two blocks from where I live and sat outside as the sun continued to rise and had breakfast, I was the only one there, watched the pelicans flap their wings in the water and the people running by, and the dogs and the sea gulls and the green mountains and the clear blue sky and I have done this on Maui and Malibu and La Jolla, Honolulu and lots of other places but you know what... this Santa Barbara is so special, it has that magic thing on the California coast and that is we face directly south, so the sun rises on the eastern shoreline and sets on the other side on the western shoreline so there are no shadows, it is full on, God bless it!
