Got pulled over tonight.... let me set the scene for you: In the four months Ive lived in LA, Ive witnessed so many people pulled over, Ive gotten two parking tickets myself, and Ive adopted what I now call the California Left (which, New England friends, is much like the Massachusetts Left, but instead of turning left really quickly before traffic can come at you, you wait until all the traffic has gone and the light has turned red before you quickly make an illegal left turn). Of course, I knew that I would one day have to pay for this move, but I didnt expect to have to face the consequences so soon, especially after a long Friday of working late and running errands (cmon, Im barely an LA native!).... The cop on the motorcycle pulls me over, I ready my license and registration, and then she walks up to the window. After introducing herself as Officer Laura Harrigan of the Los Angeles Police Department, she proceeds to tell me, your answers to what Im about to ask you will determine whether or not I give you a citation. At this point, Im praying shell ask me movie trivia, but, no dice... instead, she asks me how I felt about the decision I made 5 seconds prior to this moment. Thinking back to the dreaded California Left, I earnestly told her I felt poorly about my decision, even when I thought I was in the clear and had no idea there was a cop around. Apparently that was an A+ answer, because she never got to the rest of the questions, instead telling me that I thankfully ran into the friendliest cop around, she was eager to get to the donut shop tonight, and that she just wanted to spare me an oh shit moment in the future (sorry for the offensive words, did I offend you with that? she said).... She then shook my hand and smiled, telling me that she really, sincerely hopes Ill have a great night and drive more safely from now on. Is it possible to be pulled over and say that it made your day?
