Got sidetracked yesterday and didn’t get some of my personal faves posted. Bo Diddley’s “Cadillac” would be one of those. When I was a teenager, I was core-hardwired to saxophone music like this – it spoke/speaks to me. Gene Barge, or “Daddy G”, is the artist here - one of those hugely influential black performers you’ve never heard of. His presence permeates the entirety of “Cadillac”– great solo at 1:16 - but when he holds that 10-second note at 2:12 and then riffs on off into the sunset . . . . well, I frequently think, “Oh yeah - better hear that AGAIN!!” Amazingly, Gene Barge still performing & recording at age 88.
