Got to love the numbers of baseball. Taught me a lot of what I know about mathematics. You can create an entire high school math curriculum around watching baseball games and analyzing what takes place every single day. I could make that argument to any superintendent, principal, or curriculum specialist, and they would probably laugh in my face.....but that is OK because I know the game inside and out. Shulman and Kruk are talking about a lot of the studies being done right now that has diminished the major league batting averages to be at .249 and .247 in the American and National League, respectively, right now. As a kid, I used to look forward to those mornings where I would get the newspaper and read the MLB rulebook and play with the calculations to make sense of what was happening. Was doing this as early as 10 years old. Taught me a lot, taught me to love numbers, and it taught me to love the game.
