Got to make a first-ever A/Bus max-performance stop from 65mph for all the marbles when a Mustang spun out abt 2000 ft ahead on I-81 yesterday (sunny/dry, go figger!) blocking my lane and I couldnt break left into the other one, which was full of cars. Over about two seconds I went from rapidly increasing the brake pedal pressure while my brain evaluated Enough? Nope. Enough now? Nope! to the final conclusion: STAND ON IT!! and I did. Sure glad I put new pads in the tow dollys surge brakes the day before the trip, as that mayve made the difference; we got stopped, all 38,000 lbs of us, with maybe 35 ft to spare. Those ginormous Freightliner antilock drum brakes sure earned their keep. That was first time in at least ten years Ive had to face a no-way- out, stop-or-crash situation in anything I drive. And when yer towing and 65 ft long and in traffic, the options are more limited.
