Gould’s final concert with Leonard Bernstein – Brahms’s op. - TopicsExpress

Gould’s final concert with Leonard Bernstein – Brahms’s op. 15 It is hard not to be reminded of the criminal who does everything he can to be caught by the police in order to be freed from the compulsion of infringing the law. In the last two years of his concert career, Gould grew increasingly and, some might say, outrageously eccentric. To take an example: he played Brahms’s First Piano Concerto so slowly that Bernstein felt obliged to address the audience before the start of the concert and distance himself from Gould’s interpretation. The critic of the New York Herald-Tribune noted in his review that Gould was “indeed a fine artist” but “unfortunately” he was “at present suffering from music hallucinations that make him unfit for public appearances”. youtube/watch?v=5xPgctZORAA Visit the Glenn Gould official site at: glenngould Browse through his recorded legacy: myplaydirect/glenn-gould
