Gov. Almakura Visits Lafia Township Stadium, Inspects Tartan Track installation. His Excellency Umaru Tanko Almakura has said the robust renovations currently being done at that Stadium would lift it to International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Standard and would be more cost effective than building a brand new stadium. Gov. Almakura made this known during an inspection of the Lafia Township Stadium, where he described as fantastic the first layer of the tartan track was being laid, saying the stands and seats would be equally upgraded to meet up with the rest of the field. He said the face lift would , bring the stadium to one of the top stadiums in Nigeria, further stating that it would confer with world standards and in line with best practices. He described the huge investment committed by the administration as aimed at reducing youth restiveness to the barest minimum, through skills and sports development which will give youths with a flare for sports a conducive environment to participate and compete actively in sports. Answering questions as regard what the state would get back from the huge investment , Gov. Almakura said the state would get revenue , he disclosed that the state has players on the national team who were delivering good results further stating that one had earned the state one hundred thousand dollars $100,000 already. Lastly,he used the opportunity to call on the young boys and girls to come to be part of the states sports enterprise , which would provide a conducive growing environment and generate revenue for the state. Tartan Track is an international all-weather synthetic track surfacing made of polyurethane which is used for track and field competitions. It lets athletes compete in bad weather without serious performance loss (as opposed to running in surfaces that turn into mud) and improves their results over other surfaces. It also provides a more consistent surface for competition even under optimum weather. Such tracks have become the standard for most elite competitions. Because the Tartan brand name was the first and was widely successful in its time, the name Tartan has incorrectly become a genericized trademark for an all-weather running track. No need to go far, come to Lafia Township stadium and see for yourself. Taal is working, Nasarawa is changing!
