Gov. Edgar Chatto leads the culmination program for Lung Month, where the province of Bohol boasts of a top performing Council Against Tuberculosis, as well as 98% TB DOTS accreditation in Rural Health Centers, high cure rate of TB surpassing standards of the DOH and WHO, all possible through strong support of the Provincial Government in the implementation of the National Tuberculosis Program. Regional NTP Coordinator Dr. Eugenia Mercedes Cañal assured support of the DOH to program implementation in Bohol in terms of infrastructure and capacity development, turning over on the same occasion assistance from the DPWH for the improvement of TB DOTS Centers in RHUs. The TB Core Team also recognized exemplary performance, initiatives in the anti-TB campaign, partnerships with hospitals, media, the NGOs, the private sector, and international humanitarian organizations, with a sharing from TB-DOTS Clinic of the Ramiro Community Hospital, where the government program is implemented in a private hospital. International Humanitarian Organization Save The Children, through Deputy Country Director Michel Rooijackers, also turned over 300 BEACON kits for RHUs throughout the province. The BEACON kits are birthing essentials and newborn child care for vulnerable areas during emergencies or disasters.
