Govemors must walk and work amongst the people. What an extraordinary woman she is. The number of organisations who have received her patronage, the individuals she embraced with thoughtful, caring words and deeds. Never seeking attention, but never ceasing to make a difference during her time as Governor. It will be an honour to join the guard of honour in the grounds of a Government House for her farewell tomorrow. When the procession exits along Macquarie Street at 3 pm, Her Excellency will be escorted by five NSW Police Motorcycle Escorts and 22 members of the NSW Police Mounted Troop. The procession will culminate with a Royal Australian Air Force flypast along Macquarie Street. Professor Marie Bashir was the first woman to be appointed as Governor of NSW in 2001. Over the past thirteen and a half years, Her Excellency has made an invaluable contribution governing New South Wales in addition to her previous distinguished career in mental health, including supporting remote and indigenous communities.
