Government has denied reports that an elderly Zimbabwean man, Alfred Khumalo, who has been deported, would be brought back to this country. A Ditshwanelo official had told Gabz Fm news yesterday that government had dispatched an ambulance to Plumtree in Zimbabwe, to fetch the 96 year-old. The human rights group had also threatened to take legal action against the government over the deportation. Documents show that Khumalo had renounced his Zimbabwean citizenship in 2004, and claims that he had applied for Botswana citizenship by settlement. But Home Affairs Minister, Edwin Batshu told parliament yesterday that Khumalo had never applied for Botswana citizenship. He also said there is no record of his alleged 70 year stay in Botswana. Speaking to our reporter Thuso Motshegwe yesterday, Batshu said Khumalo was an illegal immigrant.
